3 tips to stay active during a busy work/school day

 



   

    It is no secret that exercising is good for your overall health. However, due to our busy and stressing lives we often forget to move our body, our main tool. Neglecting daily exercise has multiple downsides such as:






  • Vein related issues
  • Diabetes
  • Obesity 
  • Depression, anxiety and stress
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Higher cancer risk

    Globally, 1 in 4 adults aren't moving enough, according to the World Health Organization. Having a sedentary lifestyle is the gateway for a bunch of health issues, I do recognize how hard for some people it is to implement into their already overfilled routine, but I assure you it is manageable to move your body for at least 30 mins everyday. So I've made it my mission to not only motivate you to get a workout in but to implement these tools into your daily life as a way to prevent health complications and relieve stress!

Go on a morning or evening stroll

    This is what most people do, a 1 hour walk or so around the neighborhood before or after work to unload all of the stress and pressure of a working day. It is one of my favorite things really! Putting on my headphones, listening to my playlist and just being in my own world... Truly one of the best things to either start or end my day with. 
    Besides, it is easy, achievable, free and low impact for those who struggle with joint and bone problems. 

How can you motivate yourself to get up and walk?

Sometimes it is very hard to wake up at 6am just to go exercise or after a long tiring day of work. But here are some tips to avoid the usual "sofa melt".

  • Put on some comfy and pretty active wear
  • Feel clean and put together
  • Get some comfortable sneakers
  • Place your daily exercise in your "To do list"
  • Choose a podcast or a playlist - whatever keeps you more entertained 
  • If you have dogs, take them out with you
  • Meet up/ walk with a friend or companion- if talking is the best way to keep you motivated 
And with time you will get your own way of keeping up with this healthy habit!

Attend a group class with a friend

    This might sound a bit silly but if you have the commitment of meeting up with a friend for a fun Yoga, Pilates, Spin or Body Combat class, you will be way more likely to go. What kind of friend would want to miss out on having fun together?
     You might prefer to go to the gym with someone so an exercise buddy is definitely a way to keep your motivation up and make moving your body much more fun!

Do something you enjoy

Exercise should be enjoyable, not a painful ordeal... The "no pain, no gain" mentality for me is just totally unnecessary, you can have a pleasant time and also get fit!
The "secret" here is to find what kind of exercise you resonate the most. Take some time to try out other sports or physical activities if walking or the gym are boring for you.
Examples of that could be:

  • Cycling 
  • Swimming
  • Rope jumping
  • Dancing
  • Calisthenics
  • Boxing
  • Jiu-Jitsu
  • Karate/Judo
  • Skating
  • Pilates/Yoga
  • Basketball
  • ...
There are endless possibilities when it comes to working out, chose what you love the most!
